Default PvE Effective Professions

I'm redoing my account to make me be able to have multiple PvP characters. The catch is for one, I dont want to buy another character slot. And two, when my guild asks for some help in a dungeon or Elite Area, I will have a profession that will be PROBABLY needed/wanted.

So the question is: What are the most needed/wanted professions in PvE. List top 3 or 4 with some justifications. lol

I understand there will be different situations for where ever my team goes, so "Depends" is not an answer! Haha.

Give me your insights. Thanks.

PS mods - IDK if there is another thread like this. But if there is, I think mine has its own purpose for me. And the fact I dislike the search engine because my comp is slow somedays. lol

Honestly? Any caster. They can all handle [Assassin's Promise][You Move Like a Dwarf!][Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support][Finish Him!] with minimal energy issues, which automatically makes them the winrars.

Past that though...
Physical - Warrior. Blows shit up.
Caster - Monk or Necro. Both can heal loads, one (and occasionally both) can blow shit up.

.......and that's your list.

This. zel FTW on the first response.

I'm sure any profession will work (it's PvE : roll your head across the keys), but tbh, I've never had a problem getting into a group, either Guild/Alliance or PuG, when I was logged in on my Warrior, Monk, or Necro. Big Damage, Heals/Prots, and Armor-ignoring damage/Damage mitigation are always welcome in any balanced party.

1. Necro...Awesome in HM, armor ignoring damage
2. Warrior...Everybody loves a good tank
3. Monk...Somebody has to heal the team, however a N/Rt healer or N/Mo works well too.
4. Ele...Great in NM, Good support in HM. Can easily run almost any caster secondary with the high energy pool they have.

Warrior: They are needed evrywere in the game, and a good tank is always welcome.
Necro: Minion Masters and SSers are Great and most of the time wanted.
Monk: You need a Healer. (Rits works also great if you know how to do)
Ele: Great Damage output and you can knockdown and interupt Targets easy.

There is no such thing as a "good tank".

Assassins > Dervs when it comes to damage, although in select areas, notably FoW, Dervs come on top with AoD.
Warriors > Assassins and Dervs when it comes to utility.
Monks are at the top when it comes to healing and shit.
Necromancers are at the top of buffing physicals, and removing conditions.
Elementalists have Ether Renewal which allows them to handle an incredible amount of utility.
If you're stumped on ideas with casters, the common PvE-skill abuse setup is shown by Zelgadissan.

Though a bit unconventional, a build that actually becomes MORE effective in HM would be a Me/Mo with Visions of Regret, Empathy, Pain Inverter, Arcane Echo, Assassin Support, Auspicious Incantation (to use on Arcane Echo) an optional skill (could be backfire, another PvE only skill) and a hard rez such as Rebirth or Res Chant.

Alternatively, with a mesmer you can drop one of the pve skills listed (maybe sin) and bring Ether Nightmare and Cry of Pain for amazing damage. This would also enable your team to run Cryway.

The beauty of this build is that enemies attack faster in HM, triggering more damage which happens to be armor ignoring. With a balanced team and good builds with your allies, you will be doing more damage than your team is taking. Furthermore, the Mesmer is a great class for PvP.

Unfortunately, unless you are playing with people you know or are advertising a cryway build, you may find it a bit more difficult to join PuGs because of the stigma that Mesmers are ineffective in PvE.

FINALLY, a mesmer can use Signet of Illusions and become a fast caster in ANY other caster class, making them potentially better than any other caster class. The only drawback to this method is the loss of your elite skill.

Fast Casting doesn't make as big as a difference that the several possible elites or primary attributes do. Assassins' Promise also outclasses it.

Signet of Illusion is a gimmick, that doesnt make/break the profession of mesmer.

However, Assassins pwn face with Death Blossom.

Don't be cheap. Get extra character slots.

Don't be lazy. Make Build and equipment templates. And/Or make selected PvE characters PvP-ready.

It is always worth it to keep extra PvE characters if you want to be really helpfull. (Not mentioning keeping certain quests open on purporse to make certain stuff (i.e. vanquishes, some point farming stuff..).)

And generally, character slots are cheap compared to time(=money) it takes to roll character to abuse X when opportunity arises.

All professions are effective imo, always if used correctly.

All professions are effective, just not always or everywhere.

My list:

1. Monk. I can always play as him no matter what my guild is doing. Healing and Protecting are the obvious roles, but whenever those are already covered, I simply run a 'nuking' build. Either Assassin's Promise / Cry of Pain / Smiting based, plus the bread and butter PvE skills: Assassin Support, the Ebon Wards, Pain Inverter, Finish Him, YMLAD, etc. You can even 600/Smite with another Monk or Rit while the rest of your team leeches. lol.

2. Necro. Similar to Monks they can fill nearly any position. Debuff, damage, healing (N/Rt), with even better energy management than Monks can ever hope to have. I prefer Monk due to aesthetics though (totally personal pick).

3. Warrior. They are usually the most desired melee frontliner due to high damage, high defense, high shutdown via KDs. Dervishes and Assassins are nice, but usually require more factors to work as well due to their relative squishyness and can usually bring less utility than a Warrior.

4. Ele. Similar to the reasons given to Monk and Necro. Can play many different roles, which makes them versatile and fun to play as.

Of course this is just opinion and by no means a 'rank' of which classes I think are best, just the ones that can see most overall usage. That being said, I ranked Warrior at #3 and I never had a PvE Warrior - I just feel they are indeed more desired (I prefer to melee as an Assassin! lol).

Most important of all is to play a class you have fun as. If you like hitting things on the face with a big hammer, then healing stuff all night might get you bored fast. Play what you like and don't care about what others say/want.

Good luck.
